April 2nd Picks:
We had a good first day of April, going 9-5 yesterday. The beauty of baseball is that once the schedule is going, there are lots of games every day. Fourteen more today in fact. Without further ado, let’s get to the picking.
Minnesota at Milwaukee: The Brewers are another team that swept their opening series, going 3-0 against the New York Mets. Minnesota has also gotten off to a good start, winning their opening series against the Royals. Neither one of these pitchers are very well known, but we are going to go with the home town Brew Crew to get the win. Pick: Milwaukee
Kansas City at Baltimore: We like the Orioles to win a lot of games this year. What we don’t like is Cole Irvin in their rotation. He is their weak link and the Royals are going to take full advantage and get the win today. Pick: Kansas City
Los Angeles Angels at Miami: The Angels won yesterday behind their offense. Specifically two home runs from Mike Trout. Jesus Luzardo is a much better pitcher for the Marlins. We like Miami to get in the win column for the first time this season, with Luzardo getting the win. Pick: Miami
Cincinnati at Philadelphia: The Phillies can’t dig themselves too big of a hole in the National League East. Sure the Marlins, Nationals, and Mets are either not very good or very average, but they don’t want to lose a lot of ground to the Braves this early in the season. Give us the Phillies to get back in the win column today. Pick: Philadelphia
Texas at Tampa Bay: Zach Eflin is supposed to be the ace of the staff for the Rays. He sure didn’t look like it on opening day. With that being said, we still trust Eflin more than we trust Andrew Heaney. Even though the Rangers offense is better than the Rays, give us Tampa Bay to get the win in this one. Pick: Tampa Bay
Detroit at New York Mets: The Tigers are 4-0. The Mets are 0-4. Say no more. Pick: Detroit
Atlanta at Chicago White Sox: The Braves have Reynaldo Lopez pitching against his former team, as Atlanta and Chicago do battle. Lopez knows the White Sox hitters and they know him. We say advantage hitters in this matchup. In a bit of a surprise, give us Chicago to get their first win of the season. Pick: Chicago White Sox
Colorado at Chicago Cubs: Kyle Freeland has a 38.57 ERA right now. While we don’t think it will stay there after this one, we do think that the Cubs will score enough runs to get the win here. Pick: Chicago Cubs
Toronto at Houston: The Astros first win of the season was a game in which their starting pitcher through a no-hitter. We don’t think that will happen today with Framber Valdez. We expect the Blue Jays to come out firing and get the the win today. Pick: Toronto
Boston at Oakland: At some point this season we will pick the Oakland A’s. It won’t be often and it won’t be today. Give us the Red Sox. Pick: Boston
Cleveland at Seattle: This is a great pitching matchup, with Luis Castillo and the Mariners hosting Shane Bieber and the Guardians. Runs will be at a premium in this game. That suits the Mariners just fine. Give us Seattle in a low scoring affair. Pick: Seattle
New York Yankees at Arizona: Arizona is throwing their ace today, with Zac Gallen trying to halt the Yankees five game winning streak. Gallen pitched well against the Rockies in the opener. Nestor Cortes did not throw well against the Astros in the Yankees’ opener. Today is where the streak ends. Pick: Arizona
St. Louis at San Diego: Yu Darvish is on the mound making his third start of the season already. He didn’t look great in his first start against the Dodgers, but in his next start pitched really well. We like the latter to continue as the Padres get the win. Pick: San Diego
San Francisco at Los Angeles Dodgers: Logan Webb is pitching for the Giants against the Dodgers today. He was fantastic last year, finishing second in the National League Cy Young race. Webb is a good pitcher, and he will lead the Giants to victory against their hated rival. Pick: San Francisco
Happy picking everyone!
