Good thing we only had five games yesterday as we went winless. Despite that hiccup, we are still a solid 30-17 for the week and 59-39 overall. 14 games today so let’s get to it!

Chicago White Sox at Detroit:

The White Sox have come back to earth after splitting their first two games of the season, but they are still on a better pace than the 121 loss season of 2024. This team is better than last year, but that isn’t saying much. The Tigers took two out of three from the Mariners after getting swept by the Dodgers. Now they are at home for the first time this season, which is why they will win. Pick: Detroit

Win

St. Louis at Boston:

St. Louis is one of the surprise teams of the first week of the season, winning four of their first six games and doing it with a strong offense. Even in their two losses they have scored at least four runs. Now they face a Boston team that won two out of three against the Orioles earlier this week. Boston is throwing Walker Buehler, who we just don’t trust yet. Give us the red birds over the Red Sox. Pick: Cardinals

Loss

San Diego at Chicago Cubs:

San Diego is still undefeated which means we pick them until they lose. It might be today, it might not, but we are rolling with the Friars. Pick: San Diego

Loss

Toronto at New York Mets:

Toronto has gotten off to a 5-2 start, and they have done it because of good starting pitching. Kevin Gausman now takes the bump for the Blue Jays against the Mets, who will counter with Tylor Megill. Megill pitched well in his first start of the season, so we could see this being a low scoring game that will come down to the bullpen. Advantage Mets. Pick: New York Mets

Win

Athletics at Colorado:

Both of these teams are terrible. The Athletics are less terrible so we are going to go with them. Pick: Athletics

Win

New York Yankees at Pittsburgh:

Big free agent acquisition Max Fried gets his second start of the season for the Yankees. He didn’t pitch well in his first start, but he didn’t have a lot of help either. He allowed six runs, but only two were earned. The Pirates are countering with Mitch Keller, who did pitch well in his first start, albeit against a lineup not as good as the Bronx Bombers. This one is a toss up for us but we are going to go with the Yankees. Pick: New York Yankees

Win

Seattle at San Francisco:

For the second straight game the Mariners are starting Luis Castillo on the mound. Unfortunately, this is not the all star pitcher, but a journeyman who has never started a game and last pitched in the Major Leagues in 2022. On the other side is Justin Verlander, a pitcher the Mariners have faced numerous times when he was a member of the Astros. The results of those games weren’t pretty. Give us the Giants here. Pick: San Francisco

Win

Arizona at Washington:

After MacKenzie Gore, that is not a lot to like in the Nationals rotation. Today it is Jake Irvin’s turn and… meh. Arizona is countering with Brandon Pfaadt, who we like a lot better. Combine that with Arizona’s offense is better, and it is an easy pick for the Diamondbacks. In fact, this is our lock of the day. Pick: Arizona (Lock)

Win (Lock Record 5-4)

Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia:

Another team we are going to pick until they lose. The Dodgers face a tough weekend series against the Phillies, and we will be surprised if they are still undefeated on Sunday evening. With that being said, give us the Dodgers to win. Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers

Loss

Miami at Atlanta:

The only team that hasn’t won a game this season, the Atlanta Braves finally leave the west coast and head home to face the Marlins. Miami is a much worse team than both the Dodgers and the Padres, and the Braves are still a talented team. They have gotten off to a very rocky start, but turn it around today and get their first win of the season. Pick: Atlanta

Win

Baltimore at Kansas City:

Two teams that made the playoffs a year ago, this should be a good early season test for both teams. Dean Kremer and Seth Lugo get the ball for their respective teams, and this game is going to come down to a battle of bullpens. We don’t know which bullpen we trust more, but we are leaning Baltimore so that is where we are going to go. Pick: Baltimore

Loss

Tampa Bay at Texas:

Texas has gotten off to a 5-2 start despite a -7 run differential. That means they are winning close games and losing blowouts. Tampa Bay doesn’t blow many teams out, so by that logic the Rangers will win a close game. That is what we are going with. Pick: Texas

Win

Cincinnati at Milwaukee:

The Reds have lost three straight games by the score of 1-0. That has never happened in baseball before. The Reds pitching has been outstanding, but they haven’t been able to hit the broad side of a barn with their bats the last three games. Today the Brewers are throwing Tyler Alexander, who it looks like will be an opener. We like the Reds to get the bats going and get the win. Pick: Cincinnati

Loss

Cleveland at Los Angeles Angels:

The Angels are another team that has a winning record despite a negative run differential. The two losses that Los Angeles has endured has been 8-1 and 12-5. They haven’t won a game by more than two runs. All this to say is that when the Angels lose, they lose big. That will happen today. Pick: Cleveland

Win

Happy picking everyone!
