Much better day yesterday, going 9-5. Brings our overall record to 68-44. Full slate of games today so let’s get to it!
Chicago White Sox at Detroit:
The White Sox made the game competitive yesterday but still ended up losing to the Tigers 7-4. Detroit has now won three out of four games, and it helps playing against two of the worst offenses in baseball in Chicago and Seattle. That trend will continue as the Tigers win again. Pick: Detroit
Win
Houston at Minnesota:
Houston and Minnesota were the two teams that didn’t play yesterday, so they both have a refreshed bullpen in this one. That is probably a good thing for the Twins with Bailey Ober on the mound, but the Astros are throwing Spencer Arrighetti, who will go deep enough in this one to get the Astros the win. Pick: Houston
Loss
San Diego at Chicago Cubs:
The Padres finally lost a game yesterday! That means we aren’t going to pick them every game the rest of the season. However, they have a massive starting pitching advantage in this one with Nick Pivetta squaring off against Matthew Boyd, so we will be picking them here. Pick: San Diego
Loss
Arizona at Washington:
The Diamondbacks are a better team, but the better team doesn’t always win. Sometimes you have to go with your gut. Our gut tells us that Eduardo Rodriguez will get hit hard the Nationals will get the win. Our gut isn’t confident enough for a lock, but still pretty confident. Pick: Washington
Win
Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia:
The Dodgers finally lost as well, which means we can make an actual pick today. Roki Sasaki makes his second start for the Dodgers, while the Phillies are countering with Aaron Nola. Both are very good pitchers and didn’t look sharp in their first starts of the season, but they will bounce back. Nola will bounce back today and the Phillies will win again. Pick: Philadelphia
Loss
New York Yankees at Pittsburgh:
Marcus Stroman round 2 for the Yankees! Stroman didn’t pitch that will in his first start, but got 12 runs of support as the Yankees rolled the Brewers. We don’t think he will get 12 runs this time and the Pirates will eek out a win. Pick: Pittsburgh
Loss
St. Louis at Boston:
Boston finally put up a bunch of runs yesterday, beating the Cardinals 13-9 in a pitching optional game. Now we have two below average pitchers in Andre Pallante and Richard Fitts squaring off. This seems like a recipe for a lot more runs, which favors the Red Sox. Pick: Boston - Postponed
Baltimore at Kansas City:
Tomoyuki Sugano gets his second start for the Orioles against Michael Wacha and the Royals. Sugano was the big free agent pickup in the Orioles rotation, and that is the main reason why we don’t see Baltimore winning the American League East. They needed to go out and get someone bigger, like they did last year with Corbin Burnes. Sugano struggles in this one and the Royals get the win. Pick: Kansas City
Loss
Tampa Bay at Texas:
This should be a fun matchup, with Taj Bradley and Jacob DeGrom squaring off. Anyone who has read our previous posts knows how much we like Bradley, and think he is going to have a huge year. He took his first step towards an all-star appearance in his last start and today he will make it two for two. Pick: Tampa Bay
Loss
Toronto at New York Mets:
The Mets finally looked how everyone expected them too yesterday, winning comfortably against the Blue Jays. Now they have Griffin Canning taking the mound in game 2, squaring off against Chris Bassit. This sounds like advantage Blue Jays, and we base most of our picks on that days starting pitcher, so give us Toronto here. Pick: Toronto
Loss
Cincinnati at Milwaukee:
After getting shutout in three straight games, the Reds finally scored yesterday. We think that will continue today against Elvin Rodriguez and the Brewers, but Milwaukee will score more. Give us the Brew crew to get the win. Pick: Milwaukee
Loss
Miami at Atlanta:
Nothing like some home cooking against the National League East to get the Braves going again. They are going to make that week out in California look like a distant memory as they beat the Marlins here. Pick: Atlanta
Loss
Athletics at Colorado:
Another team we never want to pick the Rockies are going to win some games this year. At least 40, which is one less than the White Sox won last year when they set the all time loss record. Today will be one of those days, because while the Athletics are better, they aren’t that much better. Pick: Colorado
Loss
Seattle at San Francisco:
This is the third game in a row that the Mariners are facing off against a former Cy Young winner. At least they aren’t throwing another pitcher named Luis Castillo. Robbie Ray might be the worst of the three pitchers and Bryce Miller is really good, so we are going to give the edge to the Mariners in a close game. Pick: Seattle
Loss
Cleveland at Los Angeles Angels:
Lock it in for the Guardians in this one as they face off against Jack Kochanowicz and the Angels. Tanner Bibee is on the mound for Cleveland and he is their best starting pitcher. Kochanowicz allowed two runs over six innings in his first start, but that was against the hapless White Sox. He will have a tougher time in this one and the Guardians roll. Pick: Cleveland (Lock)
Loss (Lock Record 5-5)
Happy picking everyone!
