That was a very rough weekend for us. Fortunately we had a bit of a cushion, but we need to turn it around today. We have 11 games today so let’s get back on a winning streak!
New York Yankees at Detroit:
Carlos Rodon has had one good start and one subpar start for the Yankees this season. Casey Mize has had one good start for the Tigers. That start for Mize was against a putrid Mariners offense, so you must take that with a grain of salt. The Yankees’ offense is better than the Mariners, and that is why they will get the win. Pick: New York Yankees
Loss
St. Louis at Pittsburgh:
I didn’t know that Matthew Liberatore was still with the Cardinals. He was once a top prospect for the Rays, but that feels like a decade ago. He is still more polished than Carmen Mlodzinski for the Pirates. Mlodzinski has had one start this year for Pittsburgh and it went horrible. This one won’t be much better. Pick: St. Louis
Loss
Los Angeles Dodgers at Washington:
The Dodgers lost two out of three against the Phillies, and now head to the nations capitol to face a Washington team throwing MacKenzie Gore. Gore has looked dominant in the early parts of the season, and it will continue today as he carves up the Dodgers offense. Pick: Washington
Win
Toronto at Boston:
Vlad Jr. finally signed an extension and it was a big one. He got 14 years and $500 million from the Blue Jays, who ponied up in a big way. Vladdy will be happy that this saga is finally over and will lead the Blue Jays to a win in this one. Pick: Toronto
Win
Miami at New York Mets:
The Marlins took two out of three against the Braves over the weekend to run their record to 5-4. We thought Miami was going to be one of the worst teams in baseball this year, so this is a mild surprise. The Mets are 6-3 so far, a solid start to a season with big expectations. They have done this with Juan Soto struggling to start the season. It is a only a matter of time before he gets going. We like the Mets here. Pick: New York Mets
Win
Minnesota at Kansas City:
Both of these pitchers are similar to us. Just meh. So because no one has an advantage in starting pitching we look at the offenses, where we think the Royals have a big advantage. Because of that we are going with a win for the home team. Pick: Kansas City
Win
Texas at Chicago Cubs:
The last time we saw Nathan Eovaldi pitch he was finishing up a complete game shutout against the Cincinnati Reds. Now he faces a Cub offense that is averaging over six runs a game. He won’t pitch another shutout, but we do think he will be effective enough to lead the Rangers to win. Pick: Texas
Loss
Baltimore at Arizona:
It is a battle of Zach’s (different spelling I know but close enough) as Zach Eflin and the Orioles face Zac Gallen and the Diamondbacks. Gallen is a better pitcher and we think that will be the difference in this one. Pick: Arizona
Loss
Houston at Seattle:
We picked Seattle two times over the weekend and they let us down both times in getting swept by the Giants. Now they have ace Logan Gilbert throwing against the Astros. Gilbert has dominated the Astros the last couple seasons, and we think that will continue today. We are riding with the Mariners again. Pick: Seattle
Win
Cincinnati at San Francisco:
The Giants are one of the biggest surprises of the young season, racing off to an 8-1 record so far. Now they face a Cincinnati team that is averaging less than four runs a game. San Francisco’s biggest strength is pitching. Cincinnati’s biggest weakness is hitting. That combination leads to a Giants win. Pick: San Francisco
Loss
San Diego at Athletics:
The Padres head to Sacramento to face an Athletics team that has yet to win a game at home this season. After getting swept by the Cubs they are facing a Padres team that has a better offense. That is not a good recipe for a win. We like the Padres to win big. Pick: San Diego (Lock)
Win (Lock Record 6-6)
Happy picking everyone!
