February 1, 2021 Picks:
College Basketball:
Georgia Tech at #25 Louisville(-4.5) - Georgia Tech is coming off a big win against Florida State in their last game, while Louisville is looking to bounce back from a tough loss against Clemson. We know this game is in the Yum! Center, but we are still going to go with the Yellow Jackets to get the win. Pick: Georgia Tech 72 Louisville 67
#24 Oklahoma at #10 Texas Tech (-7) - After the way Oklahoma has played in the last couple of weeks, this line is surprising to us. The Sooners have won three straight games against top 15 competition, and now face a fourth in a row in the Red Raiders. We are going to say Oklahoma makes it a perfect four for four and gets the win in Lubbock. Pick: Oklahoma 76 Texas Tech 71
NBA:
Los Angeles Lakers (-5) at Atlanta - The Lakers got back in the win column this weekend with a hard fought 96-95 over the Celtics, while Atlanta got 41 points from Trae Young in their last game. The Lakers have looked out of sync the last week, but we think they get back on track today, with a double digit win against the Hawks. Pick: Los Angeles Lakers 121 Atlanta 109
Charlotte at Miami (-6) - The Miami Heat are thrilled to have Jimmy Butler back in action, as the host the Charlotte Hornets. Butler scored 30 in his first game back after missing 10 games due to Covid protocols, and the Heat are a different team with him on the court. Give us Miami to cover the six points in this one. Pick: Miami 115 Charlotte 106
Minnesota at Cleveland (-4.5) - Can the Timberwolves make it back to back wins against the Cavaliers tonight? They can, but the won’t. Cleveland will be looking to bounce back after an embarrassing loss yesterday, and expect a big game for Andre Drummond in a Cleveland win. Pick: Cleveland 123 Minnesota 110
New York at Chicago (-4) - This game is a contrast of styles. You have the Knicks, who have the best defense in the league but one of the worst offenses, going up against the high flying Bulls, who’s offense is great but can’t stop anybody defensively. We are going to go with defense in this one, and the Knicks get the close win. Pick: New York 110 Chicago 107
Portland at Milwaukee (-9) - Milwaukee has lost two games in a row, and now face a Portland team flying high after that improbable comeback against the Bulls over the weekend. We expect Milwaukee to win in this game, but Damian Lillard will not let the Blazers get blown out. Pick: Milwaukee 124 Portland 119
Sacramento at New Orleans (-3) - Zion Williamson hasn’t had a breakout game this season, but we expect a 35 point 15 rebound game today. The Kings have no one that can stop him, so he will take over the game and single handedly get the win for the Pelicans. Pick: New Orleans 125 Sacramento 118
Houston (-5) at Oklahoma City - Houston has won five games in a row, and are looking like a cohesive unit for the first time in years. Trading James Harden and getting all that draft capital, plus Victor Oladipo, was a major win in our book. We expect the Rockets to make it six in a row today as they take care of the Thunder. Pick: Houston 114 Oklahoma City 106
Phoenix at Dallas (-3) - We keep saying the Mavericks are going to turn it around. They have now lost five in a row and have made us look foolish. With that being said, we are going to double down on the Mavericks and say they will win this one. Luca Doncic will have another 30 point triple double and will have more help from his teammates than usual, as Dallas wins by seven. Pick: Dallas 119 Phoenix 112
Memphis at San Antonio (-4) - Memphis has won six straight games, including a 129-112 win over the Spurs on Saturday, as they face San Antonio in a rematch. We like the way the young Grizzlies are playing right now, and say they will make it seven in a row with a road sweep against the Spurs. Pick: Memphis 114 San Antonio 109
Detroit at Denver (-8.5) - Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets are coming off a big win against the Jazz, and now get to face a Pistons team that is 3-7 in their last ten games. We expect another big game for Jokic as the Nuggets win both games of a back to back. Pick: Denver 124 Detroit 111
Welcome to February. Happy picking everyone!
