What we got right:
College Basketball:
So. Illinois at #21 Loyola Chicago - We are right in that the line in this game was way too high. The Ramblers won, like we predicted, but it was much lower scorer than we anticipated. In the 60-52 neither team shot very well. The big difference was Southern Illinois didn’t make a free throw in this game, while Loyola went 13-14.
NBA:
Houston at Toronto - The Raptors handed the Rockets their fifth straight loss, beating Houston 122-111 on the road. Victor Oladipo is back and playing well, but without Christian Wood the Rockets are asking too much of Demarcus Cousins. Cousins isn’t the player he used to be, and that is why Houston has struggled so much the last month.
Utah at Miami - This was a tough pick, but we did get it right. Miami did indeed beat the Jazz 124-116, earning their fifth straight win. Miami handed Utah just their third loss in their last 23 games. Jimmy Butler dropped 33 points for the Heat, while Donovan Mitchell scored 30 in the last for the Jaz.
Atlanta at Oklahoma City - We picked Atlanta to win but Oklahoma City to cover the spread. Oklahoma City got the win, so they definitely covered the spread. Oklahoma City beat the Hawks 118-109, holding Trae Young to just 7-21 shooting and 3-9 from three point land. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had another solid game, scoring 24 points on just 16 shots.
Charlotte at Golden State - This game had more offensive output than we expected, with the Warriors getting the 130-121 win over the Hornets. Draymond Green had a triple double in the win, including a career high 19 assists. The Warriors have won three games for the first time this season, which is pretty surprising to us.
What we got wrong:
College Basketball:
Nothing!
NBA:
Indiana at Boston - Kemba Walker scored a season high 32 points to help the Celtics end a three game losing streak with a 118-112 over the Pacers. Domantas Sabonis celebrated earning his second all-star berth by scoring 24 points and dishing out nine assists, but wasn’t enough to overcome Walker and the Celtics.
Sacramento at Detroit - The Kings had one of their best defensive games of the season, holding the Pistons to 107 points in snapping a nine game losing streak. De’Aaron Fox scored 27 points for the Kings in the 110-107 win, but this game was won on the defensive end. Neither team shot well, but the Kings outrebounded the Pistons 67-53. The 120 combined rebounds is the most that we can remember in quite sometime.
Phoenix at Chicago - The Suns played a road game, and snapped the Bulls four game winning streak in the 106-97 win. The Suns were impressive defensively, and moved the basketball beautifully. Phoenix had 35 assists on 44 made baskets. You don’t see that much ball movement in the NBA very often, so it was pretty to see.
Los Angeles Clippers at Memphis - The Clippers got some revenge after losing to the Grizzlies the previous night. Kawhi Leonard did play in both games of a back to back, which was surprising to us. Leonard scored 30 points in the 119-99 win to help the Clippers earn the split in the two games in Memphis.
Portland at Los Angeles Lakers - The Lakers snapped a four game losing streak in beating the Blazers 102-93, behind 28 points from LeBron James. The loss was the fourth in a row for Portland, who got 35 points from Damian Lillard and not much else. The Blazers need CJ McCollum back soon.
