What we got right:

NBA:

New York at Charlotte - Looks like all Gordon Hayward needed to get back to his all star form was get out of Boston. Hayward led the Hornets with 34 points in the 109-88 stomping of the Knicks. Even though LaMelo Ball had another poor shooting game in going 3-13, he also secured 14 rebounds and dished out seven assists. He needs to be a little more selective with his shot but the rest of his game is looking good early in the season.

Memphis at Cleveland - The Grizzlies looked like the team that had extra rest in beating the Cavaliers 101-91. Cleveland had 21 turnovers in this game, and that sloppy play was the main reason that they lost. Dillon Brooks scored 21 points in the win for the Grizzlies, who had eight players score at least eight points in the win. That is balance.

Milwaukee at Orlando - Milwaukee put the clamps on Orlando in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 35-18 in the 121-99 win. Cole Anthony has been starting in place of the injured Markelle Fultz for the Magic, and the rookie has struggled. He shot 4-13 in this game and had only one assist. That isn’t going to get it done from your starting point guard.

Philadelphia at Atlanta - Joel Embiid was able to go in this game, but the 76ers were without Tobias Harris and Ben Simmons. The Hawks let Embiid get his points, but he had no help. Trae Young scored 26 points and had 8 assists for the Hawks, who snapped their four game losing streak.

What we got wrong:

College Football:

College Football National Championship Game - #1 Alabama vs #3 Ohio State - We knew that this game was going to be an offensive explosion. What we didn’t expect was for the Buckeyes to forget that DeVonta Smith won the Heisman trophy. Smith had 12 catches for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns. In the first half. He got hurt in the second half, but wasn’t needed as Alabama kept slinging the ball all over the lot. Alabama quarterback Mac Jones went 36-45 for 465 yards and five touchdowns. Najee Harris added another two scores on the ground for the Crimson Tide, who now have 7 National Championships under head coach Nick Saban. Justin Fields went 17-33 for 194 yards in the loss. We knew that Fields would have to have a game similar to how he played against Clemson, and he couldn’t get it done. Both of these teams will probably be ranked in the top five to start 2021.

NBA:

Phoenix at Washington - Bradley Beal scored 34 points in the 128-107 victory for the Wizards. He got plenty of help, with five teammates also scoring in double figures. Devin Booker scored 33 points in the loss for the Suns, who dropped to 7-4 on the season.

Toronto at Portland - CJ McCollum hit the game winning bucket with nine seconds left, leading the Blazers to a 112-111 win over the Raptors. Damian Lillard chipped in with 23 points, proving our point that this is the best backcourt in the NBA. Pascal Siakam had a triple double in the loss, but Kyle Lowery only went 5-17 from the field. Toronto needs more from their all star to win games.

Indiana at Sacramento - This was a tight game throughout, but it was the Kings who got a hard fought 127-122 win. The Kings defense continues to be a sieve, but their offense carried them in this one. Sacramento shot 56% from the field and made 15 shots from beyond the arc, with Harrison Barnes leading the way with 30 points. Buddy Hield made six three pointers for the Kings.

New Orleans at Dallas - This game was cancelled because of Covid concerns.
