January 28, 2021 Picks:
College Basketball:
TCU at #15 Kansas (-14.5) - Just three College Basketball games today involving ranked teams, and all of them have big point spreads. Both the Horned Frogs and the Jayhawks have lost three games in a row, and the last time these teams played was a 29 point victory for the Jayhawks. We like Kansas to bounce back and cover the spread in this one, ending their longest losing streak in eight years. Pick: Kansas 88 TCU 67
#1 Gonzaga (-27.5) at San Diego - Another chance to finally pick a Gonzaga game correctly! San Diego might be the worst team in the WCC, and now they face a Gonzaga team that is trying to stay undefeated. Gonzaga needs to big in games like this, otherwise Baylor is going to be siphoning votes from them. We like Gonzaga to cover. Pick: Gonzaga 106 San Diego 65
#6 Houston (-17.5) at Tulane - These two teams played a few weeks ago, with Houston getting a 21 point victory at home. With the way the Cougars are playing right now, we expect them to win by double digits again. One of these three teams won’t cover the big spread, and we are saying it will be Houston, who will be close, but won’t get there. Pick: Houston 86 Tulane 71
NBA:
Portland at Houston (-4.5) - Portland has alternated wins and losses its last six games and lost its last. Houston has won three games in a row and Victor Oladipo and John Wall are starting to find a rhythm. This just feels like a game where Damian Lillard explodes for 40 points, so we are going to go with the Blazers to win on the road. Pick: Portland 117 Houston 113
Los Angeles Lakers (-9.5) at Detroit - Both of these teams lost games last night, and look to get back on track in Detroit. The Lakers suffered their first road loss of the season, and will be out for blood. Detroit won’t know what them, as Los Angeles attack will come fast and furious. Give us the Lakers big in this one. Pick: Los Angeles Lakers 124 Detroit 97
Los Angeles Clippers at Miami (-4) - Paul George, Kawhii Leonard, Tyler Herro, and Jimmy Butler are all missing this game. If both teams were at full strength this would be an intriguing game. Alas, they are not and so we will see a lot of the second unit for both teams. We still like the Clippers second unit a little better, plus they have had an extra day of rest. Give us the Clippers in this one. Pick: Los Angeles Clippers 97 Miami 92
Golden State at Phoenix (-2) - Phoenix has dropped three games in a row and now face the Warriors that won their last game despite Stephen curry not shooting well. Curry usually doesn’t have back to back poor performances, so we feel like he will get it turned around today and lead the Warriors to a road win. Pick: Golden State 118 Phoenix 110
Happy picking everyone!
