What we got right:
College Basketball:
#1 Gonzaga at San Diego - We finally got a Gonzaga game right. It was right on the edge, but the Bulldogs beat the 27.5 spread by half a point, winning 90-62. That is amazing. Vegas is so good at picking spreads. Gonzaga actually didn’t play all that well in this game, especially in the first half, but found a way to cover the spread.
NBA:
Portland at Houston - We picked the Blazers to win, and although they didn’t they lost, they covered the spread to give us the win. Victor Oladipo led the way for the Rockets with 25 points, and Christian Wood added 22 points and 12 rebounds. Them, combined with John Wall, is a solid core for the Rockets to build around this season.
Los Angeles Clippers at Miami - In a game where three of the four all stars between the two teams didn’t play, it was a balanced effort by the Clippers that got them the 109-105 victory over the Heat. Six players scored in double figures for the Clippers, led by the 18 points of Nicolas Batum. Miami also had six players in double figures, but still came up short.
What we got wrong:
College Basketball:
TCU at #15 Kansas - Even though Kansas got the win, they still didn’t do anything to impress us. The scored only 18 points in the first half, made only four three point baskets the entire game, and shot 56% from the free throw line. If they were playing anyone competent they would have lost their fourth in a row. They have to get better in a hurry, as a show down with 18th ranked Tennessee is coming up on Saturday.
#6 Houston at Tulane - Houston continues to roll through the ACC, this time beating Tulane 83-60. They were up 44-14 at halftime and cruised to the victory. This Houston team is a legitimate Final Four contender, and you need to be paying attention to them. It wouldn’t surprise us if they didn’t lose another game until the NCAA Tournament.
NBA:
Los Angeles Lakers at Detroit - Anthony Davis didn’t play in this game, but that is no excuse for the Lakers to lose by 15 to the lowly Pistons. Blake Griffin had 23 points in the 107-92 win for Detroit, while Wayne Ellington chipped in 20. That is now two straight road losses for Los Angeles, who started the year 9-0 away from Staples Center.
Golden State at Phoenix -
