Baseball is Back! We have 14 games on day one and we are back with picking every game. Here we go!
Milwaukee at New York Yankees:
The start of the post Juan Soto era for the Yankees begins here as they face the Brewers. The Yankees losing Gerritt Cole is big but they still have a good rotation, starting with Carlos Rodon. The Brewers counter with Freddy Peralta, who is good, but not on the same level. New York will regress this year, but they will open the year with a win. Pick: New York Yankees
Win
Baltimore at Toronto:
Two pitchers that you wouldn’t think would be starting opening day, Zach Eflin and the Orioles face off against Jose Berrios and the Blue Jays. Anthony Santander faces off against his former team in the opener, and we predict two hits and a home run in a Toronto win. Pick: Toronto
Loss
Philadelphia at Washington:
At least one of these teams has a pitcher that is worthy of an opening day start. Zack Wheeler has been great the last few years, and we don’t see any sign of him slowing down in 2025. The Phillies have a better starting pitcher and a better lineup, so we like Philadelphia to get the win behind former Nationals Bryce Harper and Trea Turner. Pick: Philadelphia
Win
Boston at Texas:
These are two teams that everyone is high on this year. Boston has a completely different rotation, led by Garrett Crochet, while Texas has Jacob DeGrom back (for now). Nathan Eovaldi is a wild card for us, we could see him throwing seven shutout innings or giving up five runs in three innings. We think it will be closer to the latter as Boston starts off with a win. Pick: Boston
Win
Pittsburgh at Miami:
Paul Skenes against this dumpster fire of a Marlins linup? Easiest pick of the day. in fact we are making this our lock of the day, a new thing sports predictions will be doing this year. Pick: Pirates - Lock
Loss (Lock 0-1)
San Francisco at Cincinnati:
Logan Webb has finished in the top six voting of the Cy Young award the last two years, including a second place finish in 2023. He might be the most underappreciated player in all of baseball. He doesn’t have flashy stuff, but he knows how to pitch. You can’t say that for Hunter Greene, who does have flashy stuff but doesn’t always know where it is going. With a big edge in pitching, we give the nod in this one to the Giants. Pick: San Francisco
Win
Los Angeles Angels at Chicago White Sox:
Two of the worst teams in the American League last year, one of these teams will be getting off to at least a 2-1 start. While we think that both of these teams will be bad again this year, the White Sox won’t lose 120 games again. We like Chicago to get the win in this one, but it won’t be pretty. Pick: Chicago White Sox
Win
Cleveland at Kansas City:
Kansas City won the season series 8-5 against Cleveland last year. While past performances don’t guarantee future results, the Royals know that they can beat the champion in their division. We like that trend to continue with a Royals win. Plus, Bobby Witt Jr. is our favorite player to watch in all of baseball, so that helps! Pick: Kansas City
Loss
New York Mets at Houston:
The Juan Soto era begins in Queens as two teams that made the playoffs a season ago square off. The Mets are trending up and the Astros are trending down. We like New York to start off the season strong and get the win here. We also predict a Juan Soto home run. Pick: New York Mets
Loss
Atlanta at San Diego:
Reigning NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale gets the nod in this one as he looks to replicate the success he had last year for the Braves. Atlanta went through a lot of injuries in 2024, which was a shame, because when this team is fully healthy they are a lot of fun to watch. The Padres are a fun team, but give us the Braves in this one. Pick: Atlanta
Loss
Minnesota at St. Louis:
Former Twin Sonny Gray gets the call against his former team, as the Cardinals host the Twins. Gray has lost some zip on his fast ball, and Pablo Lopez has been an underrated pitcher for Minnesota the last few years. Usually pitchers are ahead of the hitters at the start of the season, so we are going to go with the better pitcher. Pick: Minnesota
Loss
Detroit at Los Angeles Dodgers:
While the Dodgers won’t go 162-0, they are a damn good baseball team that has no major holes. Detroit is an up and coming team, but they don’t have the depth or talent of Los Angeles. This is going to be pitchers dual between two former Cy Young winners in Tarik Skubal and Blake Snell, we trust the Dodgers offense more than the Tigers. Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers
Win
Chicago Cubs at Arizona:
Arizona is going to be a very good team this year. They would probably win most of the divisions in baseball, but unfortunately for them, they are in the same division as the Dodgers. The Diamondbacks will still make the playoffs as a wild card, and they can scare the Dodgers probably more than any other team in baseball. Pick: Arizona
Loss
Athletics at Seattle:
The Mariners are a very good team on opening day. In fact, they have the best opening day record the last 15 years. They have great pitching and no hitting, but like we said earlier, pitchers are further along than hitters anyway right now. Logan Gilbert gets the nod for Seattle, and he led the league in innings pitched and WHIP last year. That is a good combination. Pick: Seattle
Win
Happy picking everyone!
