We went undefeated yesterday in the NBA (yes it was only two games but it still counts!), and we have 11 more games on tap today. Without any further ado let’s get to picking!
NBA:
New Orleans (-6.5) at Charlotte:
We are buying all the New Orleans stock we can get. As long as Zion Williamson is healthy this team is a threat in the Western Conference. We know that is a big if, but we are riding the hot hand until it falls off. Give us the Pelicans in this one. You can have the points. Pick: New Orleans 118 Charlotte 104
San Antonio at Indiana (-2.5):
If the first game is any indication, the Spurs will not be favored in many games this year. Indiana isn’t a good team either, but they are better than the Spurs and they are playing at home. We expect another big game from Haliburton and Mathurin as the Indiana Pacers get their first win of the season. Pick: Indiana 112 San Antonio 98
Chicago at Washington (-2):
We know that Zach Lavine is still injured, but we don’t think that the Wizards should be favored in this game. Yes, the game is in Washington, but the Bulls just beat Miami on the road, and that was without Lavine as well. Demar DeRozan will have another big game and the Bulls will get the win in the nations capital today. Pick: Chicago 108 Washington 103
Orlando at Atlanta (-9):
This line is too high. Atlanta will win the game, but the young Magic team will keep it close. Orlando is talented and they try hard, they just don’t have the experience to keep up with the Hawks. Dejounte Murray and Trae Young will make big plays down the stretch and the Hawks will pull away late, but they will win by single digits. Pick: Atlanta 122 Orlando 116
Toronto at Brooklyn (-2.5):
Brooklyn looked like a disaster in their opening game this year, and now are a favorite against a tough Toronto team that looked good in their opener against Cleveland. It will take time for Ben Simmons to get himself comfortable in the Brooklyn offense, and no one is comfortable playing the Raptors. Give us Toronto to pick up the win. Pick: Toronto 110 Brooklyn 100
Boston (-2.5) at Miami:
Boston did not look like a team that was in turmoil in their opening game win against Philadelphia. Normally we would pick the Celtics here in the Eastern Conference finals rematch, but we can’t see the Heat starting the season 0-2, with two home losses. Give us the Heat to get the win in this one. Pick: Miami 106 Boston 101
Detroit at New York (-7):
This line is too high. This is the second straight game where we have been confused with the Knicks line. It came back to bite us as they covered against Memphis on Wednesday, but we think the Pistons are going to cover today. If we did lock of the day, this would be our lock. Pick: New York 109 Detroit 106
Memphis (-6.5) at Houston:
This is a tough one for us. We like the athleticism of the Rockets, but the experience and grittiness of the Grizzlies. This game is in Houston, which is the Rockets fans first chance to see Jabari Smith, the number three pick in this years draft. We think that the fans will be rocking, but in the end we are going to go with the battle tested Grizzlies to cover the spread. Pick: Memphis 114 Houston 106
Utah at Minnesota (-8):
Utah gave us the biggest surprise of the opening week, completely embarrassing the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday. Now they head on the road for the first time against a Minnesota team that is still trying to figure out how to play Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns together. Gobert, of course, got traded from the Jazz to the Timberwolves, so he will be extra amped in this one. That being said, we still like the Jazz to cover. Pick: Minnesota 112 Utah 107
Denver at Golden State (-4.5):
Denver might have been looking ahead to this game when they got bounced by Utah, but now they are focused and ready to go. Jamal Murray might not play in this one, and if he does he will be limited. That is a big loss for a Denver team that needs his shooting. You can have the points, give us the Warriors. Pick: Golden State 122 Denver 116
Phoenix (-5) at Portland:
Portland surprised everyone by knocking off the Sacramento Kings in their opener. That won’t be the case here today. Give us the Suns to win big. Pick: Phoenix 124 Portland 108
Happy picking everyone!
